Integrative Creative art and play therapy provides children with a safe space to express emotions, explore challenges, and build resilience through imaginative, hands-on therapeutic experiences using a child's own natural language.
Kinsley uses a mixture of both directive and child-led non-directive approaches.
Play-based psychodynamic therapy allows children to explore emotions and unconscious thoughts through play, fostering self-awareness, emotional growth, and healing in a supportive environment.
Sarah uses Child-led non-directive approaches.
Kinsley works with children ages 4 and up, using creative arts and therapeutic play-based therapy to support them through emotional, behavioural, and mental health challenges. Through play, children can safely express emotions and worries in a way that feels natural, using the language they understand best. Play is how children make sense of the world, and this approach allows them to explore and resolve issues in a safe and supportive environment.
Our therapy can help with a wide range of challenges, including:
- Attachment disorders
- Depression
- Family separation and divorce
- Autism & ADHD
- Chronic illness
- Bullying
- Trauma
- Self-harm
- Abuse
- Bereavement
- Low self-esteem
- Eating concerns
- School refusal and attendance issues
- Neurodivergence (ASD, ADHD, etc.)
- And more
Working with adolescents and young people:
Kinsley also provides tailored support for adolescents, recognizing that each young person has unique needs. Some may prefer creative methods, while others benefit more from talk therapy, so we offer a combination of both to best support them.
Behavioural challenges and anger management:
Therapeutic play-based therapy is especially effective for children who struggle with behavioural challenges and anger management. In a safe, non-judgmental space, they can learn new skills, gain emotional insight, and express themselves freely.
Kinsley uses a blend of child-led and directive methods to meet each child’s needs.
Psychodynamic therapy delves into underlying issues that drive a child's behaviour, focusing on deep-rooted psychological dynamics rather than surface-level symptoms. It aims to help children make sense of their internal conflicts and behaviours by exploring unconscious factors influenced by early experiences and unique emotional environments.
The therapy provides a safe space for children to express themselves through play, creativity, and interactions with the therapist. It emphasises the child-therapist relationship, using non-directive, child-led approaches.
Involving parents is essential for understanding family dynamics and supporting the child at home. While this therapy takes time, the increased emotional intelligence gained can benefit the child and family in the long term.

The reason for this is due to the different modes of training. Kinsley is trained in Integrative Counselling. She is registered with the British association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and is trained in counselling theories, such as psychodynamic, CBT, Person-centred, Gestalt and Jungian theories. She then went on to train in creative arts and therapeutic play techniques with children and completed a diploma in Counselling children and young people.
Kinsley has also done further training courses in using Child Centred Play Therapy and recognising themes in play.
The name ‘Play Therapist and Play Therapy’ are titles used by the BAPT and PTUK.
Kinsley is currently training under PTUK and has a student membership with them. However, Kinsley is still fully qualified with the BACP to work with children from as young as 4 years old, using creative arts and therapeutic play based therapy and will continue to do so under the BACP.
It varies. The minimum is 6-12 sessions, which may be enough for some children. Most children require around 20 sessions.
However, in instances where problems are more complex or if the needs are greater, a greater number of sessions may be required. Sessions are regular and consistent, usually once a week or fortnightly, usually at the same time and place – something which helps build trust in the relationship.
Each child session lasts 45 minutes (Or as long as your child can manage). Following your child's session, The Therapists dedicate an additional 15 minutes to documenting notes and completing necessary paperwork related to your child's case, and resetting the therapy room; all of which is encompassed within the session fee.
It is important to note that therapists often require more than the allocated 15 minutes to adequately address all aspects of your child's case.
So many benefits!
Both offer children a wide range of benefits for emotional, social, cognitive, and behavioural development:
This holistic approach supports children’s well-being, creativity, and personal growth in a nurturing environment which supports all the above and works towards their therapeutic goals.
When considering whether to join your child in the therapy room, it's important to understand the therapeutic process. Therapy typically involves one-on-one sessions between the child and the therapist to create a safe and confidential space for the child to explore and express their emotions freely.
While it's natural to want to be present to support your child, allowing them privacy in the therapy room encourages them to build trust with the therapist and express themselves more authentically.
Whilst we will encourage your child to be seen one to one we do understand that some children may want their parents in the room for the first session or two. We provide a screened off area in the room where Parents can sit in those instances.
Although exact details of what occurs in the therapy room will remain confidential and private between the therapist and your child, we recognise that children do not exist in isolation.
We believe that parents are the most important tenet for change in a child's life and therefore believe that it is very important that parents are involved throughout the treatment.
We recommend that parent meetings should occur every 6 – 8 weeks not only to review how the therapy is progressing but also as an aid to parents in supporting the child at home—an integral part of successful therapy.
Absolutely not!
Children’s challenges are often difficult for them to describe in words. Instead, their struggles are often acted out through behaviours, which can reveal what they’re going through. Play-based therapy focuses on the relationship between the therapist and the child, with the therapist responding to the child’s behaviour in a thoughtful, constructive way. This approach helps children feel understood and supported, creating a safe space for healing and growth without needing words.
