Creative arts and therapeutic Play therapy for autism, adhd, pathological demand avoidance and children’s mental health in Suffolk
Both therapeutic play and creative arts therapy and Dance and movement therapy are both effective therapeutic interventions for neurodivergent children.
Find out more below about how both Therapies can help your neurodivergent child.
Play regardless of the diagnosis is the most natural language of all children. It is the most innate process for children to express troubling thoughts and feelings that are both conscious and unconscious.
Play is symbolic in how a child expresses themselves, this means that words are not needed from a child in order for creative arts and therapeutic play based therapy to work, this is ideal for children who are non-verbal, have selective mutism or do not have the language skills in order to fully express themselves.
Therapeutic Play based therapy is evidence based and has been shown to help neurodivergent and Autistic Children with their ability to:
Therapeutic play and creative arts based therapy is done individually or working with the Parent and child. Generally we start with a child-led non-directive approach, allowing the child to get to know their environment and their therapist and feel safe enabling them to tell their story.

Dance and Movement Psychotherapy (DMP) sessions, support children and young people who are autistic and ADHD on their path to self-discovery and empowerment.
Grounded in evidence-based practices, our approach harnesses the transformative power of movement to facilitate mind and body integration and connection. Through dynamic movement activities and expressive exercises, participants embark on a journey of self-exploration and interpersonal connection.
DMP sessions can help with interoception our 8th sense, (how we feel things within our body), enhancing individuals' awareness and understanding of their internal states. By engaging in embodied practices, participants develop a deeper connection with their bodily sensations, emotions, and needs, leading to improved self-regulation and emotional resilience.
Furthermore, Dance and Movement Psychotherapy provides a safe and supportive space for individuals to express and navigate complex emotions, fostering emotional regulation and building vital social skills. Through group connections and embodied expression, participants cultivate a sense of belonging and expand their emotional vocabulary.
Under the guidance of Shannon our experienced DMP therapist, each session offers opportunities for personal growth, social connection, and the development of essential life skills. Join us on this transformative journey as we explore the profound impact of movement on holistic well-being and self-discovery.
