For many children, meeting a new person in an unfamiliar environment can feel overwhelming. A new face, a new room, and the uncertainty of the experience can make engaging in therapy challenging.
Minecraft Therapy and Digital Sand Tray Therapy offer an accessible, engaging approach for children who might struggle in traditional settings. By bringing therapy into a familiar, safe, and creative virtual space, these tools provide a way for children to connect with their therapist without the initial stress of face-to-face sessions.
Minecraft Therapy uses the popular game as a therapeutic medium, allowing children to express themselves and explore emotions through a digital world they often know and enjoy. Within this space, therapists can address goals like emotional regulation, problem-solving, and social skills in a way that feels natural and supportive to the child.
Similarly, Digital Sand Tray Therapy brings the benefits of expressive play therapy into a virtual setting. Using a digital platform, children can use symbols, figures, and visual representations to work through thoughts and feelings, creating a "world" that mirrors traditional sand tray therapy but in a way that can be accessed remotely.
These digital approaches help break down barriers, making therapy more accessible to children who may find in-person sessions difficult and offering a bridge to a supportive therapeutic relationship.
Please reach us at Enquiries@happyparentandchildinitiative.co.uk if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Your child will need a private, safe space where they feel comfortable during their sessions.
For technology, a laptop or computer capable of running Minecraft Education is required. Some tablets may also be compatible, but it’s up to the parent or guardian to confirm that their device can support this software.
They will also need access to the digital sand tray webpage, along with any other therapeutic sites, which I will share through the chat or provide directly to the parent or carer in advance.
Additionally, you will need to have Microsoft Teams installed or accessible, with permissions enabled for both video and microphone use.
It can be helpful for you to join your child’s getting acquainted session, particularly if they’re still gaining confidence with the technology. However, once they are comfortable navigating the setup, it’s best for them to be alone and free from interruptions during sessions. This privacy allows them to speak openly, without concerns of being overheard or influenced by others.
I will provide your child with login details for Minecraft Education, which they can use during session times. While they can explore the application outside of therapy, they will only have access to the specialised therapeutic worlds we’ve created during their scheduled sessions. Access to Minecraft Education will end when they complete their therapy.
Within Minecraft Education, your child’s experience is secure—they cannot interact with others online and can only access the pre-made worlds available within Minecraft Education.
I will share the relevant sand tray website link with you and your child during the getting acquainted session. Please make sure to bookmark this page. I will then provide you with an access code, which changes daily, allowing your child access to the digital sand tray during their session only.
Your child will need to share their screen with me so that I can view the sand tray. I will take a screenshot of the sand tray at the end of each session.
Any other websites needed will be explained during the session.
